Sheer Fantasy at Pierre Garroudi Fashion Show 18th September 08
Dark cobbled streets led us under the arches to Pierre Garroudi's Gallery and behind long black drapes we discovered a catwalk surrounded by rows of seated fashionistas with Press perched on a raised platform.
To my delight the fashion show commenced with an abundance of hot pink outfits and a futuristic feel to them, some dresses worn with huge ruffled collars and ball shaped hats made with masses of tulle. An attractive collection of daytime dresses in various designs followed after which models wearing bold vibrant reds took to the catwalk. The show closed with an elegant and sizzling collection of dramatic black lace evening wear which brought gasps from the audience and the extra clicking of cameras from the media. The designs were daring, unconventional and one of best fashion shows seen this season.
After the catwalk show Katrina the hostess arranged for us to meet the designer Pierre Garroudi who I chatted to and learnt a little about his background. Pierre is French-Iranian, has worked in Paris, Shanghai and New York where he's put on many shows. He told me that he takes a very hands-on approach including setting up the show lighting arrangement himself. It appears Pierre recruits a good mix of models from various nationalities which is good practice for designers in the fashion industry today.
