Gasping for Breath Charity Event at Shaka Zulu

20/12/2011

Charity event ‘Gasping for Breath' at Shaka Zulu Sunday 11 December

After being caught in a downpour, an evening of dinner and live music at Shaka Zulu was just the right remedy on a cold, wintery Sunday.  Shaka Zulu is a huge hidden gem situated inside the Stables Market Camden which is said to be one of the largest venues of its kind in Europe and apparently took two years to build.  The venue is decorated throughout with exquisite wooden carvings and giant statues of African scenes and tribal warriors, Shaka Zulu is gargantuan in size and the decor is breathtaking.

To warm up proceedings Bollywood dancers, Belly dancers and fire-stick performers entertained people while they had drinks upstairs in the bar.  Guests were then seated downstairs in the Braai restaurant and a three course meal was served which included a Christmas Roast Turkey Wellington.  Lady Carolle Black known as ‘Mother of The Stars' greeted us with warm welcoming hugs, she organises a charity event annually as she suffers from Sarcoidosis.  Despite having a long term illness Lady Carolle was at the event overseeing everything plus looking after guests at their tables ensuring everyone was enjoying the evening.

Singer Patrick Alan hosted the event and part of his musical career included being a member of the globally famous group The Drifters.  Patrick brought together former members of the group including Ray Lewis to reunite as a special tribute to the legendary Johnny Moore, lead vocalist of The Drifters.  Johnny sadly passed away from Sarcoidosis so the idea of this event was for The Drifters to sing some of their classic hits in memory of Johnny and to raise money for the charity which supports this disease.

It was great seeing The Drifters perform popular tunes like Under the Boardwalk, Saturday Night at The Movies, You're More Than a Number in My Little Red Book and White Christmas.  P.P Arnold and Kele Le Roc were some of the celebrity artistes who performed on the night and an auction took place to raise funds for the various charities: Sarcoidosis, Trigeminal Neuralagia, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Bells Palsy.

Pukka PR was happy to help raise awareness of the ‘Gasping for Breath' charity event, we wish Lady Carolle Black well and hope she organises many more music events like this in coming years.

A personal plea from Patrick Alan:
We lost Johnny Moore in 1998 to Sarcoidosis and US comedian Bernie Mac also passed away from this rare disease just a couple of years ago. And now our very own Lady Carolle suffers from this not so well known disease so we need desperately to raise awareness to help save the lives of people suffering from this terrible disease. And as well as help to raise money to help find a cure for this and the other 3 charities we are supporting on the night!

We will be having auctions and raffles for some awesome prizes and donations are being taken at the door when you pay just £25 to get in for such an amazing evening of world class talent and live music and if you book a table for dinner at a mere £35 per head a portion of you bill will be given towards these wonderful charities as well. Drinks tables are being sold for £250 minimum spend."

If you enjoy live music especially soul music you'll love this event it promises to be an uplifting and fun experience. Patrick Alan has worked with several high profile artistes in the music industry, he's a highly talented well respected singer and has hosted excellent live music events where famuous soul singers have performed and emerging singers have been featured.
